Coming from a family deeply rooted in the arts, Dr. Kalaipunithan is the son of Dr. Samuel Eraniel Kalai Thozhan Grace Sundara Bai, honoured as the father of theatre in Kanyakumari district. Kalai Punithan undertook an extraordinary marathon of continuous writing from 29 January 2023 to 3 February 2023, spending 16 hours and 42 minutes per day for six consecutive days — a total of 100 hours and 10 minutes. During this feat he composed a comprehensive Tamil letter containing 1,10,000 Tamil words across 1,360 A4 pages in 23 sessions, without interruption.
The letter covered diverse subjects including Tamil grammar, history, social welfare, law, culture, and literature. The Golden Book of World Records recognised this as the longest continuous letter writing achievement in the world.
