Dr. Sa. Kalaipunithan of Chennai is a renowned Tamil scholar and writer who has earned five world records in education and literary pursuits, etching his name in history. Coming from a family deeply rooted in the arts, his achievements stand as testimony to unwavering dedication and intellectual brilliance.

He is the son of Dr. Samuel Irainial Kalai Thozhan Grace Sundara Bai, honoured as the father of theatre in Kanyakumari district. Dr. Kalaipunithan's lifelong commitment to Tamil language, literature, and culture continues to inspire scholars and students across Tamil Nadu.

1. Most Postgraduate Degrees

Dr. Kalaipunithan holds the distinction of earning the most postgraduate degrees in the world. He has obtained a remarkable total of 26 M.A. degrees from various universities. His educational journey spans several decades, reflecting dedicated study and an enduring passion for knowledge. This achievement has been recognized by the Golden Book of World Records.

2. Most Degrees from a Single State University

Dr. Sa. Kalaipunithan earned 18 degrees from a single state university — Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, Tamil Nadu — the highest number of degrees obtained from one state university. The Golden Book of World Records, published from London, has recognized this as a world record and featured it in the Indian edition.

3. 100-Hour Letter Writing Marathon

Demonstrating extraordinary dedication and linguistic skill, Dr. Kalaipunithan undertook a unique marathon of continuous writing for 100 hours. During this period, he composed without interruption a comprehensive lexicon containing 100,000 Tamil words. Over seven consecutive days, he spent 16 hours and 42 minutes each day writing, achieving this remarkable feat. The Golden Book of World Records recognized and certified this achievement with global acknowledgment.

4. Most Epics Written in Tamil

As a testament to his literary prowess, Dr. Kalaipunithan has established himself as a distinguished writer by authoring the highest number of epics in the Tamil language. Over three decades from 1993 to 2023, he has written 50 epics.

His epics are meticulously crafted with profound insights, spanning diverse themes from historical narratives to social reflections and cultural subjects. Each epic stands as evidence of Dr. Kalaipunithan's deep understanding of Tamil culture and his steadfast commitment to preserving its rich literary tradition. 5. Memorizing and Writing Thirukkural

Dr. Sa. Kalaipunithan memorized all 1,330 couplets of Thirukkural, the universal scripture, and wrote them without a single error in 5 hours and 48 minutes — becoming the first person in the world to achieve this feat.

The event took place on June 18 (Father's Day), beginning at 7:00 AM and concluding at 12:40 PM, at the Chemmozhi Tamizh Valarchi Kazhagam office in Chennai, in the presence of Tamil scholars and the public. The Golden Book of World Records from London certified this achievement and published the record details in the Indian edition.
